Yosemite 2010

Devin and I had a conference in Monterey, California, after Labor Day. We took an extended Labor Day weekend to hang out in Yosemite. This was his first trip to Yosemite. We picked a few great climbs for our weekend tick list: Cathedral Peak (5.6), After Six (5.7), and Sunnyside Bench (5.4). I did a pretty good job of documenting Cathedral Peak, but I failed miserably at taking pictures on the next two! Oh well. Here are the pictures. Enjoy!

Red Rocks, Nevada (April 25-26, 2010)

Well, I finally took my first climbing trip to Red Rocks. I've been eyeing it for years, and I had actually planned on climbing Cat in the Hat (5.6, 670') on my 30th birthday party weekend in Las Vegas with Jess. But, high winds and a dust advisory closed Red Rocks, so we couldn't try the route.

This time, I found myself in Vegas for another birthday: 21 for my brother-in-law, Coleson Ruminer. Devin Shunk and I took him out there to witness and enjoy the madness, and we figured we'd get some climbing in while we were at it.

We ended up climbing Cat in the Hat on April 25th, and then we returned on the 26th for some shorter routes. We stuck to the "Magic Bus" for these last few climbs. Here are the pics.

Las Conchas and The Overlook, November 2009

My climbing buddy, Chuck Booten, and his girlfriend, Carrie Hoesli, came down from the Denver/Boulder area to visit us in New Mexico during the weekend of November 6-8, 2009. It had actually been over a year since I'd seen Chuck. Our last climb was a failed attempt on the Northwest Buttress of Capitol Peak in August 2008. In addition to catching up with each other, Chuck got to meet Kaj, and we all got to meet Carrie!

During this trip, we spent a day at Las Conchas in the Jemez Mountains (about a 35 minute drive) and a day at the Overlook in White Rock Canyon (about a 15 minute drive). I had been without a camera for the past two months (after my old, trusty Sony DSC-W7 died), but I had just received my new Canon S90 in the mail. So, this was the first weekend for pics with the new camera. I think the new camera passed the test, but let me know what you think. Its inaugural pictures are below.

Acadia National Park

In July 2008, Jessica and I took a trip to Maine to visit with my brother, Jason, in Portland. Among our other adventures during our three week trip (which included Jess' parents, Pat and Sharon Ruminer), we spent an amazing day rock climbing at Acadia National Park. This day was definitely worth hauling our rock climbing gear all over the country.

This was the first sea cliff climbing experience for any of us, and it was the first time Sharon had ever gone rock climbing. She couldn't have picked a better spot!
